Dorothy G. O'Neil

Dorothy G. O'Neil, 88, formerly of Butler, died Sunday at Vincentian Marian Manor in Pittsburgh.

Born Oct. 27, 1929, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late George C. Gillespie and Alice M. Hesidence Gillespie.

Dorothy was a graduate of Butler High School and was a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker and then Howard Hanna.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler also the Intermediate League of Butler and had volunteered for PARC.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had been a caregiver for her mother, her uncle and her aunts.

She is survived by her three daughters:

Suzanne (Dr. Mark) Brody of Jefferson Hills, Pa.; their children Dr. Shannon (Dr. Jonathan) Cohen and Dorothy's newly born great-grandchildren, Aaron and Noah; David Brody; and Jennifer Brody and her fiancé, Samuel Johnston;

Alison (William) Braun of Worthington, Pa., and their children, Trevor Braun and Michael Braun;

And, Pamela (Dr. Duane) Smyth of Mount Lebanon, Pa., and their children, Kevin Smyth, Grant Smyth and Hunter Smyth.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo K. O'Neil, whom she married Sept. 20, 1952, and who died Aug. 19, 2008; and her brother, George Gillespie; and her canine companion, “Sugar.”

O'NEIL — Friends of Dorothy G. O'Neil, who died Sunday, July 15, 2018, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery in Butler.St. Pauls Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church to recite the rosary.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
