Samuel Curtis “Sam” Drake

Samuel Curtis “Sam” Drake, 31, of Butler passed away at his residence on Sunday.

Sam was born on Nov. 23, 1986, in Stoneboro, Mercer County, to William Joseph “Willie” Drake and Donna Darleen “Dee Dee” (Whalen) Drake.

He had been a diesel mechanic at Mike's Truck Service & Sales, Inc. in Gibsonia.

He attended First Baptist Church in Butler.

Sam was a U.S. Army veteran.

He had his CDL license and had received his diesel mechanic certification from Rosedale Technical College.

Sam enjoyed reading, hunting, riding motorcycles and working on his dad's combine.

Sam is survived by his parents of Slippery Rock; five sisters, Tara (Marcus) Terwilliger of Slippery Rock, Sandra (Robert) Thaemert of Republic, Pa., Debbie (Thomas) Havranek of Baden, Debbie (Benjamin) Kostek of Oil City, and Melissa Drake of Slippery Rock; and his eight brothers, Thomas Hosack of West Sunbury, Eric, Stephen, Adam, Joshua, Paul, Aaron and Benjamin “Big Ben” Drake, all of Slippery Rock.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Julia René; and an infant brother, William.

DRAKE — Visitation for Samuel Curtis “Sam” Drake, who died Sunday, July 8, 2018, will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Additional visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., Butler, with Pastor Dave Maitland presiding.Interment will follow at West Liberty Cemetery, West Liberty Borough.
