Ruth Evans

Ruth Evans

Ruth Madeleine Buffington Evans, 94, passed away Friday evening at her home at Creek Meadows Personal Care Home in Zelienople.

Born Sept. 11, 1923, in Mudlic, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Nolf Buffington. She was a long time member of the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.

She married Clinton W. “Coonie” Evans on Sept. 27, 1947. They were married for 59 years until his death on Dec. 9, 2006.

During World War II, Ruth worked in manufacturing at Johns-Manville. After the war, she worked as a nanny for the late TV personality, Paul Shannon, and his wife, until her marriage. She later worked in numerous supermarkets in the Beaver County and Zelienople areas.

Ruth was a warm, kind-hearted and generous person, who greatly loved her family, siblings and nieces and nephews, and was there to help them whenever she was needed.

She had an encyclopedic knowledge of people and events in the Zelienople area; when teased about it, she would smile and say “I'm not nosy, I'm inquisitive!” She will be dearly remembered and missed by friends and family.

She is survived by her son, Clinton W. “Bill” Evans and his wife, Louise, whom Ruth loved and treated as though she were her own daughter, of Butler; two granddaughters, of whom she was very proud: Emily Lorraine Evans, Ph.D. (U.S. Army Maj. Daniel Finnegan, D.V.M.) of Arlington, Va., and Molly Elizabeth Evans, Ph.D., of Chicago.

She is also survived by her sister, Dolores LaSota, of Knox, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Janet Murray of Zelienople.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clair, Gene, James, Robert “Red” and Daniel Buffington; and five sisters, Mary Claudine Blum, Margaret Thiebaud, Abby Domhoff, Joann Roberts and Helen Buffington.
