State police arrested a woman accused of strangling her mother Wednesday after the victim fled barefoot to Marburger's Dairy in Forward Township to report the attack.
Katherine Kelly, 32, of Evans City is charged with strangulation, a second degree felony, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment. She is in Butler County Prison on a $15,000 bond.
Officers responded to Marburger's Dairy at around 4:40 a.m. on reports of an assault. They met with Margorie Kelly, who reported being attacked and strangled by her daughter at her home earlier that night.
Trooper Tyler Dubovi reported observing signs that Margorie Kelly had been assaulted.
“Kelly had strangulation marks around her neck, a bloody lip and a black and swollen eye,” he said in his report. “Kelly related that she had walked over a mile, barefoot, looking for help after her daughter, Katherine Kelly had attacked her in her home.”
Margorie Kelly reportedly told officers her daughter had been drinking and attacked her after a brief argument.
She said her daughter “punched her several times in the head, shoved her around the kitchen and strangled her around the neck with her hands,” according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set Aug. 7 before District Judge Wayne Seibel.
