Fire call leads to pesky discovery in Cranberry Township home

CRANBERRY TWP - Firefighters, police and emergency medical responders converged on a home in Evan Court in Cranberry Township Friday morning with reports of strange sounds coming from one of the walls.

According to Fire Chief David Mack, firefighters entered the building fully equipped, but no flames would be found.

They made their way to the offending area and a heat scan showed a hot spot in the wall. Mack said firefighters drilled a small hole for better access, but no flames, steam or heat came out.

Instead, out of the wall came bees, disturbed by the drilling intruding on the nest they had been built in the wall.

Relieved the home was not at risk, responders left the scene and the homeowners called a company to deal with the bees.
