Two Butler police chiefs have hired an attorney
Butler attorney Al Lindsay said he and his clients — Butler Police Chief Ron Brown and Deputy Chief Dave Adam — are reviewing the events that led to the chiefs being placed on paid administrative leave so they can decide what to do next.
Mayor Ben Smith hasn't publicly stated why he placed both men on leave Thursday morning, but the move came in the wake of the police department officers' union casting a unanimous vote of no confidence in Brown and Adam.
“We're reviewing the situation to determine what would be the appropriate thing to do under the circumstances,” Lindsay said Friday.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 32 held the vote June 5. The union issued a statement giving reasons for the vote — a lack of leadership and poor decision making, a lack of strategy in addressing current criminal activity in the city and a lack of cooperation with the news media.
“I can't really state what their reaction was. I was certainly surprised,” Lindsay said.
Lindsay declined to comment on what Brown and Adam will do next.
