New bank plans fall opening
HARRISVILLE — Plans have moved forward for a new bank on South Main Street in the borough.
Scott Patton, COO and president of Mercer County State Bank, which now has 11 locations, including one in Grove City, said its newest location in Harrisville has received final banking approvals.
Patton said Butler County Planning Commission also approved the site plans at its last meeting.
Harrisville residents have been without a bank since First National Bank closed its Main Street location in May.
Demolition could begin this week at Mercer County State Bank's new location, at 543 S. Main St. — a building Patton said previously housed a farmers' market.
“By the end of next week, the building should be down,” he said.
Patton said his company has hired PW Campbell of Pittsburgh to design and manage the building of the new location, with plans for about 1,300 square feet of space.
“The design for this is pretty simple,” Patton said. “It's a little bit smaller than a traditional building, but it will still be a full service bank with a couple of offices and a drive-through and tellers.”
Construction of the building is expected to be complete in mid-September, according to Patton. He said the bank will also need three or four new employees.
“It'll take four to six weeks after that to put everything together to open,” he said of the company's timeline.
After the building is ready to open, Patton said the bank will have a grand opening.
Patton said he is looking forward to seeing more customers in the finished bank, after receiving praise from some excited residents.
“We've had a tremendous amount of positive feedback about this,” he said. “We've had several people come and open accounts at our Grove City location in preparation.”
Patton said he is looking forward to serving Harrisville customers right in their downtown area.
“They want to bank local,” Patton said. “They don't want to have to drive 15 minutes to the next town to do their banking.”
