Leah Barbara Studebaker Hartzell

Leah Barbara Studebaker Hartzell of Slippery Rock passed away on Sunday at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

She was born Oct. 3, 1924, in West Liberty Borough, to Howard Arthur Studebaker and Margaret Sylvia Dennison Studebaker.

She married Duane W. Hartzell on Sept. 22, 1943, and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2016.

Leah attended the Jameson School of Nursing in New Castle.

In addition to being an integral part of the family farming business, she worked as a tax collector for 10 years and at Grove City Hospital for two years.

She was the past president of the Slippery Rock Women's Club and served on various church committees, as well as taught Sunday school at Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

She was active politically as a Democrat.

Survivors include three daughters, Dana (Dave) Campbell of Osprey, Fla., Barbara (Jere) Keen of Millersville, Pa., and Marsha (David) Repka of St. Cloud, Fla.; two sons, Stephen Hartzell of Slippery Rock, and George (Kathy) Hartzell of Slippery Rock; seven grandchildren, Curran (Grace) Campbell, Ben (Tammy) Campbell, Karen (Ronan) Conway, Max (Kate) Repka, Janelle (James) Hoffman, Daniel (Alyssa) Hartzell of Slippery Rock, and Michelle Hartzell of Slippery Rock; three great-grandsons, Alexander and Ivan Conway and Matthew Hoffman.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Samuel Keen.

HARTZELL — The family of Leah Barbara Studebaker Hartzell, who died Sunday, June 24, 2018, will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. William Mumaw III presiding.Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
