Joseph Andrew Jesteadt
Joseph Andrew Jesteadt, 90, of Prospect passed away early Saturday morning at his residence.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in West View, Allegheny County, he was the son of the late Joseph Killian and Edith Antonet Burger Jesteadt.
He was a member of St. Christopher at the Lake Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.
He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed playing in the dirt and riding on tractors.
Joe was a former member of the Butler Farmers Market, where his friends encouraged him to grow vegetable plants and flowers to sell. He then opened Jesteadt's Greenhouse in the late 1950s on Grindel Road in Prospect. As his family took over the business, you would still see his working hands and friendly smile in the greenhouse right up until the last day.
He is survived by his loving children, Kenneth (Paula) Jesteadt of Prospect, Carol (Thomas) Hunsberger of Greencastle, Pa., Gerald (Kathy) Jesteadt of East Brady, Ronald (Brenda) Jesteadt of Wexford, Cheryl (Toby) Vollnogle of Prospect, Jack (Beth) Jesteadt of Colorado, Thomas Jesteadt of Prospect, Chris (Bruce) Shaffer of Prospect, and Diane (Jeff) Pritts of Prospect; 26 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Grindel Jesteadt, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948, and who passed away March 23, 2017; his grandson, Kevin Jesteadt; four brothers; and one sister.
JESTEADT — Visitation for Joseph Andrew Jesteadt, who died Saturday, June 23, 2018, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edward L Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher at the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Prospect, with the Rev.
