State police are investigating an attack by two Rottweilers that left a 6-year-old girl with serious injuries Tuesday night while visiting a relative's home in Center Township.

The girl suffered bleeding bite wounds on her head and back, authorities said. She was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Her condition was not known this morning.

The initial call came in about 8:35 p.m. at the house on Shanahan Road just off Sunset Drive for the attack by the family's dogs.

A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to the girl while Unionville volunteer firefighters went to nearby Crossfire Church at Route 8 and Mercer Road where they set up a landing zone for a STAT MedEvac.

The girl was taken to Children's Hospital for treatment of injuries described as “serious,” according to a report.

It was unclear what happened to the dogs in wake of the incident.

Police said neither the state dog warden nor the township dog officer showed up that night.
