Jahote Dorsey
Targeted house of ex-girlfriend

A Butler man was sentenced to county jail Thursday, after being charged with breaking into an apartment and assaulting the resident and repeatedly breaking into an ex-girlfriend's house and violating a protective order.

Jahote C. Dorsey Jr., 23, was sentenced to 2 to 4 months in Butler County Prison by county Judge William Shaffer. That will be followed by 2½ years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $300 restitution, a $50 fine and court costs. He was given 60 days time served credit and made work release and community service eligible.

Dorsey was also reparoled on a previous parole violation in a 2016 case.

A third case was withdrawn by the prosecution.

Dorsey pleaded guilty July 13 to felony trespass, misdemeanor simple assault, flight to avoid apprehension and summary criminal mischief in two cases.

He was initially charged with felony trespass, misdemeanor terroristic threats, simple assault and summary harassment after an incident in the 600 block of New Castle Street on Jan. 22.

Butler police said Dorsey broke into the apartment through a locked door and assaulted 32-year-old Joshua Norris, who was with a social worker at the time. Police said the social worker witnessed the incident.

Dorsey was later released after his bail was reduced. He pleaded guilty to the felony in that case.

He was then accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's South Street home on Feb. 4 and Feb. 7.

In the Feb. 4 incident, police said Dorsey broke into the house twice. When the 31-year-old woman returned home the first time Feb. 4, she found Dorsey inside the home. She told him to leave several times but he refused, police said. He eventually fled before police arrived.

Later that day, documents said, the woman found him hiding in the attic. Dorsey again ran away before police got there.

He was charged with felony criminal trespass in that case, which was later withdrawn.

On Feb. 7, Butler police charged Dorsey with two felony counts each of criminal mischief and flight to avoid apprehension. He pleaded guilty to an amended misdemeanor flight charge, which was later added.

In that case, police said Dorsey was found hiding in the basement of the home.

In addition to his criminal charges, Dorsey is charged with violating three protective orders, and is scheduled for a Family Court hearing Sept. 6.
