Driver injured in one-vehicle wreck on Route 8
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — State police are investigating a one-vehicle wreck Thursday night on Route 8 that left one person injured.
The driver, a female believed to be in her late teens or early 20s, apparently fell asleep about 9:30 p.m. while traveling south just north of Branchton Road, authorities said.
Her car crossed over the northbound lane and down an embankment. The vehicle rolled onto its driver's side and ended up against a tree, said Ryan Hanchosky, chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company.
The driver's side window was down, he noted, and the driver's left hand got pinned between the outside of the car and the tree.
Firefighters had to ease the car from its position and extricate the female. She was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital with a possible broken hand.
A police accident report was not immediately available.
The Pine Township Engine Company in Mercer County and Butler Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
