MUDDY CREEK TWP — A Massachusetts man is accused of leading state police on an approximately 20-mile drunken chase that reached speeds of 130 mph before he crashed his car into a ditch on Interstate 79, authorities said.

Robert L. Milgram, no age given, of Natick was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for an undisclosed reason following the wreck shortly after 7 p.m. July 3. Police said he was not injured.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Milgram, who is still awaiting arraignment on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

He also is charged with 53 traffic violations.

Police said a trooper's hand-held radar device initially clocked Milgram's 2009 Honda Accord going 89 mph while westbound on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township. The posted speed limit there is 55 mph.

The trooper attempted to pull over the defendant, according to court documents, but he refused to stop and ran a red light at the on-ramp to I-79 north.

While on the interstate, police said, Milgram sped up to 130 mph while “weaving in and out” of traffic. He also passed vehicles on both the left and right berms as the pursuit continued into Mercer County.

A police affidavit said that when he tried to turn onto the Interstate 80 ramp in Findley Township, his car struck a guardrail and crashed into a ditch.

The defendant at the hospital agreed to a blood draw, police said. Toxicology results are pending.
