Patricia Ann Ligas

Patricia Ann Ligas, 79, of Stratford, Conn., formerly of Lyndora, passed away peacefully Monday at the Jewish Home for the Elderly.

Armed with her strong faith in God and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Pat courageously battled Alzheimer's disease and dementia for over 10 years.

Born Sept. 13, 1938, to the late John and Mary Kosar Narabetski, Pat was a lifelong, proud resident of Lyndora, where she embraced and held steadfast to her ethnic and religious familial connections.

Soon after graduating from Butler High School in 1956, Pat began what would become a 37-year career with Nationwide Insurance, in their Western Pennsylvania Regional Office in Butler. Working her way up in the Claims Department, Pat was a well-respected colleague and astute authority on automotive collision issues.

One of her most significant professional accomplishments was being named to the Pennsylvania State Claims Association Board.

However, as hard as she worked professionally, Pat's greatest joy was her son, Mark. As a single parent who was literally enveloped by a loving and supportive community of family and close friends, Pat again turned to her faith and made whatever sacrifices necessary to create a home filled with love, dignity and respect.

Pat's other loves included playing bingo, rooting for the Steelers and the Chicago Bulls, and heading to Atlantic City with her life-long friend, Carole Willison.

After leaving Nationwide in 1995, Pat enjoyed many years of retirement before she bravely left her Lyndora community in 2005. Pat moved to central Pennsylvania to care for her beloved sister, Joan, who was suffering with pancreatic cancer. Again putting her own life aside, Pat stayed by her sister's side until the end.

Instead of returning to Lyndora, Pat remained in Central Pennsylvania with her loving nieces, nephews and their families until she joined her son's family in Connecticut.

In addition to her loving son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Amy, Pat is survived by her three most precious gifts, namely her grandchildren, Christopher, Abby and Kyra.

She also leaves her cherished nieces and nephews, Linda and John Collins of Cohasset, Mass., Steven Bauer of Etters, Pa., Sue Zarefoss of Hershey, Pa., and James and Terry Bauer of Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Additionally, Pat's life has been blessed with numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as their beautiful children. She also had very fond memories of many Kosar cousins and their families.

LIGAS — A memorial Mass for Patricia Ann Ligas, who died Monday, June 4, 2018, will be celebrated later this summer at Saint Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lyndora.Burial will be privately conducted at the family's convenience at Rose Hill Cemetery, where the family will honor Pat's wishes to be laid to rest next to her beloved parents.
