BUTLER TWP — A township police officer was injured while responding to a reported domestic dispute Wednesday night at a home on Elizabeth Drive.

Mark E. Sheakley, 45, who lives at the house, was arrested on felony assault and other charges. Butler Township police said he “engaged in a fight” with officers.

The injured officer, Patrolman Jason Gueck, suffered apparent minor injuries but he did not seek hospital treatment that night.

Police were called to the home about 10:40 p.m. for a verbal argument and found the defendant, who repeatedly asked to speak with his wife and son, according to court documents.

Sheakley told police that he had “no idea why officers” were called and he became “confrontational” with police, documents said. Officers suspected he was intoxicated.

Despite being warned to keep away from his wife, according to a police affidavit, he walked past one officer and began to argue in Gueck's face.

Sheakley is accused of grabbing Gueck's right wrist in an attempt “to move (the officer) out of the way and engaged in a fight.” Gueck forced the defendant to the ground.

Other officers had to assist before Sheakley could be handcuffed, police said.

The altercation left Gueck with red marks and bruising on his wrist. He was not expected to miss any time, said police Lt. Matthew Pearson.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Sheakley on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.

He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail following arraignment. His preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 16.
