New program at VA makes submitting claims easier
CENTER TWP — Military veterans can soon submit benefits claims through a video screen at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center.
Starting July 13 and continuing every other Friday from then on, local veterans who want information on their benefits can contact relevant VA staff via a teleconference station at the Duffy Road facility.
The program is a walk-in service to help local veterans who want the benefits information, but aren't technically proficient enough to teleconference with the regional staff from home. Staff at Abie Abraham plan to help those interested to conference with the relevant staff remotely in a private room. The room is equipped with a computer and a webcam and uses a VA firewall to secure the connection.
Veterans can make a benefits claim and find out what benefits are available to them at the location.
The teleconference workers aren't replacing anyone at the local VA, according to supporting staff. The service is a walk-in program available from 8 a.m. to noon every other Friday. It's in Waiting Room One, which is to the left upon entering the VA center.
The program is called TeleBenefits. The local workers running the program are Amy Stewart at (878) 271-6120 and Amy Kunst at (878) 271-6119.
