Two-vehicle crash breaks off hydrant

A two-vehicle accident resulted in a fire hydrant being struck and one vehicle tumbling over a hillside.

CRANBERRY TWP — A two-vehicle accident resulted in one vehicle going over a hillside Thursday, taking a water hydrant with it.

The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Franklin Road near Mars Road and Hillmont Drive. According to first responders at the scene, two vehicles were involved, with a truck going over a hillside on Franklin Road. The second vehicle was driven to the corner of Franklin and Hillmont.

The vehicle that went over the hillside struck a hydrant, causing water to run freely above the scene.

Authorities said one person was in that vehicle at the time and was being treated at the scene. Township Public Works employees were also on scene to shut off water to the hydrant. Officials said that work meant there could be service issues in the area.

Cranberry police, fire and EMS responded to the crash and Franklin Road was closed to traffic at the Mars Road/Hillmont Drive intersection, and at Route 228.

Additional information was not immediately available.
