Turnpike tolls to see 6 percent increase

Pennsylvania Turnpike Cranberry Twp toll plaza on Thursday July 5, 2018.

CRANBERRY TWP — The price for traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike will increase once again, after the Turnpike Commission on Tuesday approved a 6 percent toll increase for 2019.

The increase will take effect Jan. 6, 2019, and raise rates for both E-ZPass and cash customers.

Local commuters say that's the price you pay for convenience, but the continued increases may make them consider alternate routes.

The toll hike is part of an annual increase required to meet the Turnpike Commission's funding obligations to the state and to maintain and improve the 522-mile system that runs through Cranberry Township.

This is the 11th consecutive year the tolls have risen in price. The commission previously stated annual increases could continue until 2044.

A calculator and toll schedule for the 2019 rates will be posted online later this summer at http://www.paturnpike.com/toll/tollmileage.aspx.
