Butler County is on a flash flood watch today, according to the National Weather Service. A flash flood watch means that conditions are right for heavy rains and flash flooding.

“We have showers and thunderstorms heading through,” NWS meteorologist Bob Coblentz said. “They could drop a lot of rain in a short period of time. … They’re pretty scattered right now.”

Shortly after 2 p.m. the weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Southern Butler County.

Coblentz added that Butler County should expect storms today before the weather changes for the better.

“We’re going to have a really nice weekend,” Coblentz said. “All of Western Pennsylvania is going to be beautiful over the weekend.”
