WORTH TWP — An antique tractor rolled onto its driver on Wednesday afternoon off Book Road, briefly pinning him under the machine.

Chief Ryan Hanchosky of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department said the 55-year-old man was moving round hay bales using the forks on the antique Farmall tractor at 1 p.m. when the weight of the bales shifted and caused the tractor to roll over.

The man's leg was pinned under the machine, and Hanchosky said one of the large rear tires that remained turning on the still-running tractor caused brush burns on the man's back.

A family member who had walked outside heard the man yelling in the remote field and was able to help him out from under the tractor.

Portersville EMS and Slippery Rock VFD arrived to find the man bruised and abraded, but out from under the large tractor.

“He was in a lot of pain,” Hanchosky said. “We loaded him into the ambulance and took him to Allegheny General Hospital's trauma center.”

Hanchosky said the Independence Day accident could have turned out much worse.

“He got lucky,” he said.

The man's name was not available on Wednesday.
