Barbara S. Forman

Barbara S. Forman

Barbara S. Forman, 90, died on Monday at her home surrounded by family.

She was born July 23, 1927, in Franklin, and was the daughter of the late Richard P. and Martha Berlin Shorts.

Barbara graduated in 1945, from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

She married her soul mate, Hugh Forman, in Youngstown, Ohio, on May 19, 1952. Hugh preceded her in death on April 20, 1986.

Barbara and Hugh were longtime residents of Butler. They also shared a home in Longboat Key, Fla., where they enjoyed sailing around the Gulf of Mexico.

Barbara was active in the Butler Garden and literary clubs for many years, and was an avid bridge player. She was committed to her volunteer work through the Junior League, Meals on Wheels and Butler Hospital Auxiliary.

Barbara frequently referred to herself as the “luckiest woman in Butler.” Her optimistic nature and fun loving personality made people feel comfortable in her company.

Barbara is survived by two daughters, Susan of Champion, Pa., and Martha of Pittsburgh; as well as her surrogate daughter, Amy Vavro of Butler. She is also survived by her sister, Martha MacDonell of Lima, Ohio; and a niece and nephew.

The family is eternally grateful to Theresa, Jessica and Jacque', for the love, care and unending kindness shown to Barbara over the years.
