Charles Steven Hilderbrand
Charles Steven Hilderbrand, 90, of Chicora passed away at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Home in Cabot.
Born Saturday, July 9, 1927, in Donegal Township, he was the son of Charles William and Agnes Landgraf Hilderbrand.
He attended the one-room Duffy School and lived in the same house his entire life.
Charles served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II as an airplane mechanic.
He worked side-by-side with his father pumping oil wells and at Franklin Glass, then at Pullman Standard for many years, until its closing.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 488 in Bradys Bend.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He took great pride in the appearance of the lawn, flowers and shrubs on his property.
On June 6, 1953, he married Agnes E. Garnick in St. Paul Catholic Church, in Butler. Agnes died July 14, 2017.
Charles is survived by two sons, Timothy (Mary Ann) Hilderbrand and Jay Hilderbrand; a daughter, Shirley (David) Rugaber; four grandchildren, Theresa Hilderbrand, Charles Hilderbrand, Amy Rugaber and Michael Rugaber, all of Chicora and Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles William Hilderbrand III; three brothers; and four sisters.
HILDERBRAND — Friends of Charles Steven Hilderbrand, who died Friday, May 25, 2018, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Steighner Funeral Home, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday from Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev.
