JACKSON TWP — Township police arrested an Evans City man Wednesday for allegedly assaulting his father while intoxicated and walking down Prospect Road.

Stephen Spithaler, 50, is charged with assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.

He is in the Butler County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Arresting officer Michael Murcko responded to reports of an “attempted” domestic assault along the road and stopped a vehicle with Spithaler in the passenger seat, documents say.

Spithaler’s parents also arrived on the scene.

“According to Frank Spithaler, he and his wife Rose had learned that their son, Stephen, was intoxicated and walking home along SR-528 (Prospect Road),” Murcko said. “In a concern for Stephen’s safety they found him walking along the roadway and asked him to get in their vehicle. An argument ensued and a physical altercation occurred between Frank and Stephen.”

Officers observed a lump and a laceration above Frank Spithaler’s eye that was bleeding, documents say.

Frank stayed in the vehicle the whole time of the incident.

“Stephen confirmed that he was intoxicated and had gotten out of his girlfriend’s vehicle in the middle of the roadway,” Murcko said. “Stephen also advised that upon arrival of his parents, an argument ensued. At that point Stephen no longer wished to discuss the matter in fear of incriminating himself.”

Stephen Spithaler’s preliminary hearing is set for June 26.
