Rawland D. “Raleigh” Fox

Rawland D. “Raleigh” Fox, 83, of Butler passed away on Monday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

He was born March 4, 1935, in Perry Township, and was the son of the late Herman D. Fox and the late Elsie L. Wile Fox.

Raleigh was a longtime barber and manager of Fox's Barber Shop.

He was a member of Meridian Presbyterian Church, the Meridian Vets Club, a lifetime member of the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club, National Rifle Association, the 520 Canby Lodge F&AM of St. Petersburg, Pa., and the AASR Valley of New Castle.

Raleigh was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a staff sergeant.

He enjoyed hunting, collecting unusual safety razors and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley L. Fox, whom he married on June 28, 1958; a son, David D. Fox and his wife, Rebecca, of Butler; two daughters, Jayanne L. Cook and her husband, Eric, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Marlene R. Welch and her husband, John, of Indiana, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Jordan, Caleb, Seth and his wife, Lydia, and Ethan Cook, Nolan and his wife, Bethany, Allison and Evaline Fox, Emma, Laura, Jack, Sara and Johanna Welch; his sister, Mabel H. Bryant of Sligo, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

FOX — Public visitation for Rawland D. “Raleigh” Fox, who died Monday, May 21, 2018, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler.Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. with his son-in-law, Pastor Eric Cook, officiating.Burial will take place in St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery.Arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
