Janet B. VanDyke

Janet B. VanDyke, 94, of South Buffalo Township passed away Thursday while in the company of family in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Janet was born June 21, 1923, in Kittanning. She was the daughter of the late Nancy (Walker) and Albert Roscoe “A.R.” Boarts. She was the widow of Kenneth R. VanDyke, who passed away in 1995.

Janet was a 1941 graduate of Kittanning High School.

She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for her father's business. She had also done office work for Allegheny River Mining Co.

Janet enjoyed refinishing antique furniture. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport.

Janet is survived by her two daughters, Barbara A. VanDyke of Harmar Township and Shirley L. VanDyke of South Buffalo Township; and her son, Richard K. VanDyke of South Buffalo Township.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas M. VanDyke Schmaus and his wife, Sarah Ginestet, Kathryn E. VanDyke Schmaus and Harley L. Westerman; her great-granddaughter, Elize Solene Schmaus; her sister-in-law, Maxine Boarts; her brother-in-law, Edward Leard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded by her sister, Elizabeth Leard; her brother, R. Graham Boarts; and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard G. and Alice Boarts.

VANDYKE — Family and friends of Janet B. VanDyke, who died Thursday, May 17, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Public visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 323 Fifth St., Freeport.Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James V.
