Richard J. Nitowski

Richard J. Nitowski

Richard J. Nitowski, 87, formerly of Natrona Heights, passed away Monday at his home.

He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Natrona, and was the son of the late John and Anna Falenski Nitowski.

Richard was a longtime resident of Natrona Heights and recently moved to Concordia in Cabot.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country during the Korean War and his community with his service organizations.

Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master's degree in education from Westminster College.

He served the school districts of Butler, Slippery Rock and Highlands as a teacher, principal and coach.

Richard was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights, American Legion Post 48 in Natrona, VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights, Knights of Columbus Council 2602 in Natrona and the Tarentum Eagles.

His hobbies were many, including bowling, golf, sipping on a green one, and of course his beautiful art. Many of his “masterpieces” hang in the local service clubs, area businesses and, of course, the walls of many friends and family.

Richard adored his family, especially his grandchildren, who he was recently with for a college graduation. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, as the”life of the party” and his zest for life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Slyvia Glogowski Nitowski; four daughters, Richelle Nold of Chantilly, Va., Maria (David) Stewart of Centreville, Va., Jodi (Sam) Albert of Saxonburg, and Cris (Andreas) Hunn of Leesburg, Va.; his grandchildren, Bethany and Dillon Nold, Aaron (Danielle), Adam, Aiden and Addison Albert, Cameron, Ian and Lauren Stewart, and Claudia and Henner Hunn; his sister, Connie Donofrio of Akron, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
