Soldon Anthony

Soldon Anthony

Soldon William Anthony, 94, formerly of Chicora, entered into rest Thursday at the home of his daughter, Linda F. Anthony Goode in California where he lived for the previous eight months.

Soldon, an only child, was born to John and Are Reynolds Anthony on July 30, 1923, in Pulaski, Tenn.

Soldon completed his high school education in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 1, 1943, and was honorably discharged Jan. 18, 1945.

He had served as an engineer and general clerk. He received recognition for serving in the American Theater, the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater. He received a Bronze service star during the Asiatic Pacific Theater conflict. A medal of good conduct for the World War II victory was also granted.

Soldon shared numerous stories of his military duties when in France, Belgium, Germany and the Pacific.

As a young man, before his service in World War II, he married Evelyn Winton and after retiring from military duties, they settled in Pennsylvania. His employment history was with U.S. Steel as a supervisor among other job titles.

Through the years, Soldon maintained his religious foundation with a past membership in the Shiloh Baptist Church in Butler. Many of his fellow worshippers saw him as a gentle and kind man. His values, accomplishments and character validate this claim.

Soldon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Evelyn, who died Sept. 30, 2014.

He leaves his daughter, Linda, to cherish his memory along with his numerous friends.
