J. Harold McBride

J. Harold McBride, 94, of Butler, formerly a resident of Slippery Rock, passed away on Sunday.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1923. Mr. McBride was the son of Ralph A. and Margaret Book McBride of Slippery Rock.

A World War II, U.S. Army Air Force veteran, he was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 393 of Slippery Rock.

Harold was a graduate of New Castle Business College and spent most of his working years in the banking business. His career in banking took him to Brookville Bank and Trust, later called Indiana Bank and Trust, from 1969 until 1977. Previously, he worked at First National Bank of Slippery Rock for 21 years. He retired as a Pennsylvania state bank examiner in 1986.

Harold was active in his community and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township, where he had served as superintendent of the Sunday school, deacon, past treasurer and past financial secretary. He had served as a member of the Slippery Rock School Board and was a former member, past president and secretary of the Slippery Rock borough. He was a member and past master (1968) of the Grove City Lodge 800 F&AM.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Peg) Bumpus McBride; his second wife, Kathleen Cunningham McBride; and a brother, Ralph B. McBride of North Manchester, Ind.

Mr. McBride is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Knox of Slippery Rock, and Jean Quinn of Elderton; two daughters, Darla Music of East Point, Ky., and Bonnie Schall of Latrobe; and three sons, James E. McBride of Mogadore, Ohio, Jeffrey McBride of Laurel, Md., and Gregory McBride of Butler. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

McBRIDE — Visitation for J. Harold McBride, who died Sunday, April 15, 2018, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and for one hour before the 11 a.m. service Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. Tom Meling of Zion Baptist Church will officiate.Burial will be at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 148 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
