Charles Leroy Smith
Charles Leroy Smith, 84, a resident for 48 years of Mercer Butler Pike, Liberty Township passed away at 5 p.m. Thursday at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born on April 12, 1934, in Harrisville, to Ford Nelson Smith and Edna Pearl (McConnell) Smith. He married Shirley Helen Peterson on Dec. 10, 1958, and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2010.
Charles, also known as “Leroy” to his friends, was a truck driver and formerly worked at Interstate Chemical, Tajon and Altman Trucking. He worked for Hunter's Truck Sales until February 2018.
As a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church, Leroy was a deacon and a former trustee.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of the Mercer County Antique Power Association. Along with restoring tractors, he enjoyed dancing and spending time with his friends and family. He truly enjoyed life and made the most of every day.
Charles is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Ann Albert and her husband, Donald L. Albert Jr., of Harrisville; and Linda Renee Hogue and her husband, Brian E. Hogue, of Jackson Center; a sister, Donna Hogg of Slippery Rock; two grandchildren, Kristen Ann Allison and Brandon Tyler Hogue; and a great-granddaughter, Riley Ann Allison.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
SMITH — The family of Charles Leroy Smith, who died Thursday, April 12, 2018, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Monday at the North Liberty Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Willard Morse, retired pastor, officiating.Interment will follow at North Liberty Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Meals on Wheels, 819 Columbia Ave., Grove City, PA 16127.
