The South Butler County School District and its teachers union will meet on Monday, May 21 for nonbinding arbitration.

A three-person panel comprised of a representative from each side plus a state arbitrator who is a Pittsburgh attorney will hear both sides, consider the teachers' and school board's final best offers and piece together their recommendations on an issue-by-issue basis.

Once the arbitrator comes to a decision on the issues within 20 days, the two other panel members will be asked if they agree. If one or both sides agrees, the school board and teachers have 10 days to vote to accept or reject the panel's findings.

If one side rejects the findings, the two sides return to negotiations.

The last teachers contract expired on June 30, 2014.

A full story will appear in the Butler Eagle.
