State police have captured a man who stole a car in Butler shortly after 8:30 this morning.

The unknown suspect was armed with a large stuffed toy fox.

The theft occurred at Joe's Auto Repair on East Jefferson Street in the city. The crook walked in and used the bathroom, said Robert Acquavita, who owns the business.

Acquavita was talking to a customer in the bay and noticed the tall stranger, who was difficult to miss, but not because of his 6-foot, 3-inch frame.

“He was carry a big teddy bear,” Acquavita said.

The bear was actually a fox, said Butler police Capt. James Hollobaugh.

The man came out of the bathroom and made his move. He grabbed a key to a car from a board holding customers' car keys and took off in a burgundy Toyota Corolla.

He left eastbound on East Jefferson Road, also known as Route 68. He was last seen on Route 422 west where motorists called 911 to report a reckless driver on the highway.

Police at the New Castle station chased him by vehicle and then on foot before nabbing him just minutes ago.
