William F. Walters
William F. Walters, 88, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Pittsburgh, and was the son of the late Harry Walters and the late Patricia Hampton Walters.
Mr. Walters was one the originators of the Butler County Fire School. He taught at the fire school for over 30 years and attended every year since its inception. Mr. Walters retired from the Butler City Fire Department in 1973 as assistant fire chief. He then worked for the VA Medical Center in Butler as fire chief, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Walters was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church. He served as a former Ordained Elder and greeting usher at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Mr. Walters was a former Elder at Lyndora Presbyterian Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in 88th Infantry Division during World War II in the Mediterranean Theater.
Mr. Walters is survived by his wife, Patricia, whom he married on Oct. 23, 1948; one daughter, Connie Steinberg of North Canton, Ohio; one son, William A. (Cindy) Walters of Butler; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Nanci Lang; and one brother, James Walters.
WALTERS — Friends of William F. Walters, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Merry H.
