William E. “Bill” Schmidt

William E. “Bill” Schmidt, 60, of Gibsonia passed away Wednesday surrounded by his family.

Bill and his wife, Linda, shared a passion for the outdoors and loved to travel to parks in the United States and around the world where they spent time capturing beautiful pictures of nature and wildlife. Bill's expertise in photography has been enjoyed by friends and family and recognized in published works.

At home, Bill was a dedicated husband, son and brother. He cared for and respected the environment, loved animals of all kinds and enjoyed helping his nieces and nephew discover the outdoors and technology.

Bill earned a degree in physics from Carnegie Mellon University. He worked at AGR International as a physicist and engineer for more than 35 years. He was described as “a world class talent and AGR was blessed to call him one of their own. His legacy will live on for many years through all of the products.” He was well-known throughout the company and respected for his work and ethics.

He leaves behind his loving wife of more than 30 years, Linda (Erdman) Schmidt. Bill is also survived by his two sisters, Beth (John) Porter and their children, Stephen and Sarah, and Barb (Glenn) Shultz and their daughters, Taylor and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Betty Schmidt; and his brother, Stephen Schmidt.

SCHMIDT — Friends of William E. “Bill” Schmidt, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Schellhaas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's memory to support esophageal cancer research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Checks should be made payable to University of Pittsburgh and sent to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Development UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
