Virginia Louise Sweeney

Virginia Louise Sweeney, 89, of Kittanning passed away peacefully Thursday at Armstrong County Health Center in Kittanning.

She was a longtime resident of Saxonburg.

Louise was born May 28, 1928, in Manor Township, Armstrong County. She was the daughter of the late Ina (Spang) and Earl Shannon.

She was the widow of Richard K. Sweeney, who passed away in 2015.

She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, patch work quilting, crocheting, craft work, baking and cooking.

Louise had worked for a number of years in the deli department for Kroger's Co. at the Butler, Allison Park, Natrona Heights and the Kittanning stores.

Louise was a longtime member and past deacon of the Jefferson Center Presbyterian Church in Saxonburg.

Louise is survived by her four daughters, Diane, wife of John Shirley, of South Buffalo Township, Kathy Chambers of Canton, Ga., Sharon, wife of Mike Carr, of Natrona Heights, Margie Sweeney and John Hoak, of Natrona Heights; and her son, Mark Richard Sweeney, of Carlisle.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jean Hughes of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gloria McConville of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Chambers; and her sister, Nancy Smock.

SWEENEY — Family and friends of Virginia Louise Sweeney, who died Thursday, March 22, 2018, will be received from noon to 2 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev.
