Oversized load snaps support wire
An oversized load snapped a support wire at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, causing minor damages to two cars and multiple buildings at the intersection of West New Castle Street and Hansen Avenue.
Butler Police responded to the incident, speaking with at least two people whose cars were damaged and homeowners from whose buildings the wire was pulled. The awning of at least one home sustained minor damage.
After hearing a load, snapping noise Mike Barto of New Castle Street said he went outside to find a KLX Energy truck carrying an oversized load, which appeared to be a mobile office. He said the truck stopped momentarily, but then left before authorities responded.
A representative from the KLX Energy, with has a branch in Evans City, arrived at the scene to speak with police around 1 p.m.
Earnest Ball, who lives on the corner of the intersection, said the incident is not uncommon. He said many trucks, especially oversized loads, hit the wires at the intersection.
“They're always ripping things out of houses,” he said. “Another day on the corner.”
