Traffic patterns will change this week as part of an ongoing roundabout project on Route 228 in Clinton Township.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, flaggers will control traffic on both sides of the Route 228 Cox’s Corner project, as well as the intersection of Ekastown Road and Saxonburg Boulevard.

Also Wednesday, Westminster Road will be detoured for a day to allow for paving of that road. During that time, a detour will be in place on Route 228 to Brewer and to Albin.

A planned detour for Saxonburg Boulevard is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. either Friday or Saturday to allow crews to complete the temporary road paving from Saxonburg Boulevard. The detour includes West Main Street, Butler Road, West Water Street, East Water Street, Neupert Road, Winfield Road, North Pike Road, Sarver Road and Ekastown Road.

Traffic to and from Saxonburg will use this temporary road until later this summer, when the new Route 2005, Saxonburg Boulevard, is tied into the roundabout. Traffic from Saxonburg on the temporary road will only be allowed to make right turns onto the new Route 228 alignment.

Motorist traveling east toward Ekastown will make the right, travel through the roundabout and continue west.

This $5.54 million project includes the creation of a roundabout, which includes excavation, subbase, drainage, pavement markings, highway lighting and landscaping. The work, being done by A. Liberoni Inc., is expected to be completed in July.
