License plate stop leads to drug charges in city
A Butler man was arrested after city police Saturday stopped him in a car with nearly one-third of a pound of suspected marijuana.
Tywann R. Windham, 33, is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession. He is in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail. He also is being held on a probation violation.
Police said they pulled him over about 11 a.m. on South Chestnut Street near West Diamond Street for a license plate violation. They also learned his license was suspended.
Officers noticed the “strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle, according to court documents, and Windham admitted he had the drug in his coat pocket.
He turned over a baggie that was full of suspected marijuana, police said. The bag was eventually weighed and found to contain 147 grams, or a little more than 5 ounces.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the defendant on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and driving during suspension.
Court records show Windham has two prior felony drug convictions.
A preliminary hearing on the latest charges is set for Monday.
