CRANBERRY TWP — After some delays due to soil issues, the CTCC SportCourts at Graham Park will be dedicated at 9 a.m. April 14.

The complex was the Cranberry Township Community Chest's 2017 Project of the Year and a joint project with the municipal government.

It includes eight pickleball courts, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, four horseshoe pits and three boccie ball courts. There's also a multisport practice area, restroom and space for a community garden.

The complex is ADA compliant without any stairs or steep slopes. It also has sidewalks wide enough for two wheelchairs to pass.

The CTCC contributed $125,000 and raised about $350,000 from the community. The township handled project management, engineering, infrastructure, a new bathroom and additional parking as part of its phase 2 development of Graham Park.

A unique element about the SportCourts is the groups that are forming around the sports represented at the new facility, said Bruce Mazzoni, CTCC board member and a founding member of the Cranberry Township Pickleball Association.

The pickleball association formed to support the sport and pay for the courts. The group has 275 paying members already, Mazzoni said. It has already been hosting indoor clinics and classes, but hopes to expand its offerings of lessons, drills and court reservations once the outdoor facility is ready.

“Now we have residents working with the township to form associations for boccie, horseshoes and basketball,” Mazzoni said. “Build it, organize it and they will come.”

After the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting, there will be demonstrations of some of the amenities at the complex.
