A Butler man pleaded guilty to assault in Butler County Court on Wednesday, after being charged with assaulting a woman while on a date and kicking two state troopers in November.

Kurt W. Camus, 50, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of simple assault before Judge William Shaffer. The plea agreement calls for probation on each charge, to run consecutive to each other, as well as the payment of restitution, fines and court costs. He will also be required to complete a drug and alcohol assessment and complete anger management classes.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 10.

Camus was initially charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, three counts each of misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment, and one count each of misdemeanor resisting arrest, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and summary public drunkenness after an incident on 10th Street in East Butler on Nov. 9. The remaining charges will be dismissed as part of the plea.

State police filed the charges after a woman reported that she was on her second date with Camus when he attacked her for no apparent reason, according to court documents.

She told police that Camus grabbed her by the side of the head and slammed the back of her head against the wall.

Police said when they got there they found Camus on the second floor, smashing out a window. He reeked of alcohol and was quickly detained. But Camus soon caused another commotion, this time with police, documents said.

He is accused of kicking Troopers Nathan Spangler and Gregory Hays while they tried to gain control of him on the floor. He also allegedly shouldered Spangler into a wall.

During the altercation Camus told the troopers that they “weren't real,” according to a police affidavit.

Police said Camus eventually had to be forcibly removed from the apartment.
