Accused thief paroled in 2017 burglary case
A West Sunbury man was paroled to electronic monitoring in Butler County Court on Wednesday, after being charged with breaking into a neighbor's mobile home and stealing items in January 2017.
David J. Lewandowski, 38, was sentenced to 6 months to 1 year in Butler County Prison, but was immediately paroled to electronic monitoring with time served by President Judge Thomas Doerr.
He will be returned to Allegheny County to face a probation violation which had been pending due to this case.
His parole will be followed by two years of county probation. Lewandowski was also ordered to pay court costs and $810 in restitution.
Lewandowski previously pleaded guilty to felony criminal trespass March 27.
He was also initially charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor theft, theft by deception and receiving stolen property after an incident on Findlay Road, West Sunbury, on Jan. 17, 2017. Those charges were dismissed as part of the plea.
State police said Lewandowski broke into a neighbor's mobile home and stole three rings that belonged to the owner's late husband before selling the rings at a Lawrence County gold store.
The victim told police that when she returned home Jan. 17, she noticed an unspecified item misplaced in her bedroom.
When she checked a safe, according to court documents, she discovered $200 in currency and a $10 roll of quarters missing, as well as her late husband's rings — a silver wedding band, a 1967 Knoch High School class ring and a gold ring with a red stone. The items were valued at a combined $600.
Police checked their precious metals website and found where Lewandowski had sold the jewelry for $288.
A warrant was issued on Feb. 13, and Lewandowski was later arrested.
