Woman caught with drugs twice in 2 weeks
A weekend traffic stop possibly felt like déjà vu for Butler police.
Officers seized nearly $700 in currency and more than 2 ounces of suspected marijuana in the stop Saturday night on West Brady Street.
Two Saturdays earlier, police had confiscated $701 in cash and about 2 ounces of marijuana after pulling over a car.
Angela N. Stietenroth, 22, of Butler was the driver in both traffic stops.
She is being held in Butler County Prison on $60,000 bail, on charges in two felony drug cases.
Officer Kory Fleming was on patrol in the area of West Brady and Broad streets about 9:16 p.m. Saturday when he spotted a sport utility vehicle with a broken taillight, police said.
The officer stopped the SUV a short time later and smelled marijuana coming from it, according to court documents.
Stietenroth was taken into custody stemming from an arrest warrant that was issued in connection with the previous traffic stop.
In the driver's side door, Fleming noticed a “wad of cash,” his affidavit said. Another “wad” was found in one of her pants pockets.
The money was subsequently counted, police said, and totaled $692.
Stietenroth's front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old Butler boy, was eventually searched and found with three “bigs bags” of marijuana, documents said, hidden inside his pants.
He also was carrying a smaller baggie of suspected marijuana in a pocket.
Combined, police said, the suspected marijuana weighed 79.78 grams, or about 2.8 ounces.
In the stop about 11:15 p.m. March 17, police said they pulled over Stietenroth's car on Etna Street at Center Avenue because her brakes didn't work.
The smell of marijuana from the defendant's vehicle caught the officers' attention, according to documents. Before long, police seized about 60 grams of suspected marijuana in two separate bags.
One of those bags also contained $701 in currency.
Stietenroth was arraigned on two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy, all felonies.
Additionally, she is charged with misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and possession of a controlled substance, and a summary violation for having faulty brake lights.
Police said the 17-year-old boy, who they did not identify, was turned over to Butler County juvenile probation officials following the traffic stop.
