William J. (Bill) Helsel
William J. (Bill) Helsel, 67, of Butler passed away Feb. 14 in Key West, Fla.
He was born Dec. 22, 1950, in Tarentum, and was the son of the late Frederick Helsel and the late Velda Helsel.
Mr. Helsel was the tax collector for Butler Township for the past 15-plus years.
Mr. Helsel received a bachelor of science degree from Slippery Rock University in May of 1985. While pursuing his CPA license, he worked for the Kroger Grocery chain. He earned his CPA license in April 1987.
Mr. Helsel worked in public accounting in Pittsburgh and later for Carbis Walker. He left Carbis Walker to pursue his own business of tax preparation and auditing local government entities. In 1995, he obtained a professional certificate as a certified government financial manager. He belonged to the following organizations, AICPA, PICPA and the local BCTCA.
He was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. Helsel is survived by his wife, Linda Helsel; one daughter, Megan Helsel of Alexandria, Va.; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved bichons, Rudy and RB, whom he cherished. He nicknamed them, “The Boys.”
Mr. Helsel loved to travel in the motor home with “The Boys,” and his wife.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Sherwood; and one brother, Dale Helsel.
HELSEL — A memorial service for William J. (Bill) Helsel, who died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the North Street Christian Church, 220 W. North St., Butler, with Pastor Robert C. Huber officiating.
