BUTLER TWP — Township commissioners amended the real estate tax ordinance due to changes in the payment schedule.

Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to adopt an amendment changing the discount, face value and penalty periods to pay real estate taxes.

The new discount period is April 1 though May 31, the face value period is June and July and the penalty period begins Aug. 1.

Commissioners noted that the amount of time in the discount and face value periods has not changed, but the changes were necessary due to the untimely death of longtime tax collector William Helsel in February.

In other business, the commissioners approved placing stop signs on Bredin Avenue at two intersections where Bredin meets Cooledge Street and adding signage indicating that cross traffic on Cooledge doesn’t stop.
