Man pleads to burglarizing neighbor
A West Sunbury man pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Tuesday to breaking into a neighbor's mobile home and stealing items in January 2017.
David J. Lewandowski, 38, pleaded guilty to felony criminal trespass before President Judge Thomas Doerr.
The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 6 months to 1 year in Butler County Prison, probation, fines and restitution.
He is scheduled for sentencing on April 4. Following sentencing Lewandowski will be sent to Allegheny County to address a probation violation, as he was on probation in that county at the time of his arrest for this case.
Lewandowski was also initially charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor theft, theft by deception and receiving stolen property after an incident on Findlay Road, West Sunbury, on Jan. 17, 2017.
State police said Lewandowski broke into a neighbor's mobile home and stole three rings that belonged to her late husband before selling the rings at a Lawrence County gold store.
The victim told police that when she returned home on Jan. 17, she noticed an unspecified item misplaced in her bedroom. When she checked a safe, according to court documents, she discovered $200 in currency and a $10 roll of quarters missing, as well as her late husband's rings — a silver wedding band, a 1967 Knoch High School class ring and a gold ring with a red stone. The items were valued at a combined $600.
Police checked their precious metals Website and found where Lewandowski had sold the jewelry for $288.
A warrant was issued on Feb. 13, and Lewandowski was later arrested.
