Dorothy H. Myers, 99, of Portersville died Friday at her daughter's home in Saxonburg.

Dorothy was born March 29, 1918, in Ellport, Pa., and was the daughter of Austin and Effa Mae Shanor Beighley.

She was a 1943 graduate of Slippery Rock University and taught school in one-room schoolhouses. She also was a bookkeeper for the former Myers Brothers' Feed Store and Myers Brothers' Golden Dawn, now Cal's, in Portersville.

Dorothy was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville. She also was a member of the Ladies Bible Study, the Ladies Missionary Society, and she taught Sunday school.

She was on the Committee for Butler County Child Evangelism, and she was a member of the Keenagers.

Dorothy loved gardening and canning.

Survivors include one son, Richard (Sandy) Myers of Rockledge, Fla.; two twin daughters, Sue Haggerty and her husband, Frank Ballina, of Saxonburg and Beth Patton of Portersville; four grandchildren, Mark (Felicia) Myers of Miami, Fla., Matthew (Clara) Myers of Vero Beach, Fla., Jessica Patton of Noblesville, Ind., and Shaney (Jeff) Haggerty-Mitchell of Mars; four step grandchildren; one great-grandson, Mark Anthony Myers of Miami; five stepgreat-grandchildren; 10 nieces; and six nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Myers, whom she married Aug. 28, 1943, and who died May 16, 2013; three sisters, Mary Schiedemantle, Esther Duncan and Sarah Shidemantle; and two brothers, Mac McCandless and Austin Beighley.

MYERS — Visitation for Dorothy H. Myers, who died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating. Burial will be at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, Concordia Hospice in Cabot, PA, or to the Portersville Keenagers in c/o Joan Courtney- 1066 New Castle Road, Prospect, PA 16052.
