Rock baseball rallies to 9-8 win

KISSIMMEE Fla. — Ray Scala’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday capped a stirring comeback and gave Slippery Rock University baseball a 9-8 victory over Wayne State.

The game concluded SRU’s play in the Sunshine State Classic.

The Rock (7-5) had trailed the game 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh before scoring six times in the final three innings.

Scala’s hit plated Christian Porterfield with the winning run. Porterfield had produced his team-leading fifth home run of the season earlier in the contest.

Tanner Stanz pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the win over Wayne State (9-7).

Abraham Mow paced SRU with three hits, including a triple and two runs scored. Luca Fuscardo had two hits, including a homer and three RBI.

Tyler Walters had a double and three RBI for SRU. Joe Campagna contributed two hits and walked twice.

The Rock returns to action March 23 with a doubleheader at Seton Hill. The two teams will also play a twinbill March 24 at Critchfield Park.

Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
