Rock baseball rallies to 9-8 win
KISSIMMEE Fla. — Ray Scala’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday capped a stirring comeback and gave Slippery Rock University baseball a 9-8 victory over Wayne State.
The game concluded SRU’s play in the Sunshine State Classic.
The Rock (7-5) had trailed the game 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh before scoring six times in the final three innings.
Scala’s hit plated Christian Porterfield with the winning run. Porterfield had produced his team-leading fifth home run of the season earlier in the contest.
Tanner Stanz pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the win over Wayne State (9-7).
Abraham Mow paced SRU with three hits, including a triple and two runs scored. Luca Fuscardo had two hits, including a homer and three RBI.
Tyler Walters had a double and three RBI for SRU. Joe Campagna contributed two hits and walked twice.
The Rock returns to action March 23 with a doubleheader at Seton Hill. The two teams will also play a twinbill March 24 at Critchfield Park.
Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
