No action taken on permanent Penn fix

The Penn Theater in downtown Butler.

The leak in the vacant Penn Theater roof has been significantly reduced, but the roof should be replaced, the Butler Redevelopment Authority was told Thursday.

Veronica Walker, executive director, told the board that the authority's maintenance workers patched the roof and the leak has been greatly reduced.

The entire roof should be replaced or a 20-by-20-foot section should be replaced, costing $1,000, she said.

The board took no action on either option.

The Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation loaned the authority $290,000 to buy the theater in 2009. The board's goal is to clear the debt and sell the theater.
