Woman held in car assault case

Shelly Godfrey

A Butler woman was allegedly more than twice the state's legal limit for alcohol when Butler police say she intentionally tried to run over another woman.

Police arrested 48-year-old Shelly Godfrey following an altercation early Sunday morning that began on West Brady Street. No injuries were reported.

A call for four people arguing sent Butler police to a home on the 500 block of West Brady Street. Officers were told that Godfrey had punched and bitten a Seven Fields man at the house, according to court documents.

Rachel Ferderbar, who lives at the house, and another woman were also there.

The others told Godfrey to leave the house, and she drove away in a car.

A short time later, while Ferderbar was standing on nearby Hayes Avenue, Godfrey circled the block and allegedly drove toward the woman.

“Ferderbar stated that Godfrey then swerved her vehicle toward her,” documents said, “intentionally trying to hit her (and) causing Ferderbar to jump out of the way and run back to (the house).”
