Crews battled a house fire on Mayfield Avenue off Route 8 in Center Township Tuesday morning.

Two people were home at the time of fire, but both managed to get out on their own, according to a family member.

A dog, however, died.

Bonnie Ziegler lives at the home but she was at work. She said her husband, William, and her aunt, Caroline Gross, escaped.

Gross was taken to the hospital but Ziegler said, “she'll be OK.”

The call came in about 7:15 a.m. The family has lived at 119 Mayfield Ave. for 17 years.
