Richard W. “Dick” Kappel
Richard W. “Dick” Kappel, 86, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel, passed away Monday.
Dick proudly served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army.
He was a graduate of Shady Side Academy and Lehigh University. He was also the former CEO of Kappel's Jewelers Inc.
Dick was a member of Butler Country Club, the Duquesne Club and the Royal Order of Jesters.
He was an avid traveler and an active golfer.
He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Elaine Kappel; dear father of the late Caroline (Kappel) Haak and Richard Kappel; father-in-law of Mark F. Haak; and grandfather of Alexander F. and Thomas R. Haak.
KAPPEL — Friends and relatives of Richard W. “Dick” Kappel, who died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, are invited to a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Longwood at Oakmont Ballroom, 500 Route 909, Verona.Inurnment will be private for the family at Homewood Cemetery.Arrangements were entrusted to BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, Oakmont.Memorials may be made in his name to Shady Side Academy, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, or a charity of one's choice.
